Boys’ tennis team members practice for their matches. They lost all of their matches so far but hope to turn things around. “Our team could work on improving our defense, which I think is where we struggle the most,” junior Jamie McCabe said.

After having three games postponed due to the snowfall at the beginning of the season, the varsity boys’ tennis team lost its first game against Lehighton April 4. After playing seven matches, the team’s record is 0-7 as of April 18. They lost to Lehighton twice, Reading, Blue Mountain twice, Schuylkill Valley and Muhlenberg.

“My goal is to have the players get a little better with every practice and match,” Mr. Adrian Portland, head coach said.

The beginning of the season got off to a rocky start with all of the snow.

“The season slowly took its course because of the lack of good days. The team, on the other hand, is slowly gaining members, but other than that we are doing swell,” junior Chris Ott said.

The tennis season is halfway through, and the team hopes to get some wins.

“I have coached baseball, basketball and golf in my 20 years as a teacher, and I am really enjoying coaching tennis now. We have a great group of young men,” Mr. Portland said.
