Teacher Tales: Mr. Shaffer

Teacher+Tales%3A+Mr.+Shaffer

Mr. Shaffer is a fifth-grade teacher in room 210. He enjoys teaching math most of all because as a child he struggled in math and has learned a lot. He now wants to share what he learned with his students, so they don’t struggle. Mr. Shaffer encourages his students daily by saying, “If at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again!” and “Be a problem solver.” Mr. Shaffer became a teacher and a coach because he had many teachers and coaches as role models when he was a student. Mr. Yost was the coach who he looked up to the most.

In addition to teaching, Mr. Shaffer coaches football at Pottsville and track and field at North Schuylkill. You Win In the Locker Room First by John Gordon is his favorite book because it talks about coaching strategies and creating a positive culture. Coach Shaffer likes seeing his athletes succeed in sports he enjoyed as he grew up. Mr. Shaffer likes helping his students and athletes work hard to achieve their goals. In the free time he has left after teaching and coaching, Mr. Shaffer likes to spend time with his family and play with his dog, Griff.

I hope you liked learning about Mr. Shaffer; say “hi” to him next time you walk past room 210!
